The Horsterwold is the largest (over 3,700 hectares) contiguous deciduous forest in Western Europe. An ideal area to enjoy peace and space. An extensive network of paths and routes awaits you. Come face to face with deer, wild horses, foxes, or the numerous birds that inhabit the area. Such a large area is also full of special spots and landmarks with a story. Discover them by bike, on foot, on horseback, or from a canoe.

With all its diversity, the Horsterwold is a place to fully enjoy. The richness of plants, tree species, animals, and mushrooms is continuously expanding. This also provides huge possibilities for timber production. For those who love forests and enjoy immersing themselves in peace and vastness, the Horsterwold is a beautiful place full of opportunities. When the Horsterwold was being developed and designed, careful consideration was given to the human need for experience, you will also find the Sea of Galilee here. This small lake was created to break up the straight paths and canals in the polder. You will be astonished by its beauty. Paths and other facilities are abundant, but not evenly distributed everywhere. The Stille Kern, the heart of the Horsterwold, consists of 1,100 hectares. A unique area where you can roam everywhere following the footsteps of the herd of wild Konik horses. They ensure that the immense diversity of forest, shrubbery, grasslands, and marshes is preserved. And for those who are less mobile, there is also a partially paved path through the area.

Beaches and forelands.

The water of the border lakes and the forests of the Horsterwold meet in a special way at the beaches and forelands. An extensive extradike sandy strip with beaches to enjoy the sun, but also with various patches of dry and wet nature where numerous types of dragonflies gather. There are even small heath fields to be found, which you might not expect in Flevoland.
