The Zuiderzeeroute has been one of the most popular Long Distance Cycle routes (LF) in the Netherlands for years. The round trip around the former Zuiderzee has been upgraded and transformed into an LF-icon route. Zeewolde is now also included in the route (stage 7, 52 kilometers). You can reach Zeewolde via the bicycle/pedestrian ferry from Strand Horst and cycle through the largest continuous deciduous forest in Europe, the Horsterwold, to Spakenburg. Zeewolde has various bike-friendly accommodations where you can stay for one or more nights.

This 'round IJsselmeer' takes you through a rich history of the former Zuiderzee, which was only tamed last century with the construction of the Afsluitdijk. With the Zuiderzeeroute LF, you will discover what the struggle between man and nature has yielded. You will cycle over large areas of reclaimed land and hydraulic engineering works. During the 440-kilometer route, you will also pass medieval trading cities, the former island of Schokland, and many characteristic fishing villages. A gem of a route!
