From May 26, 2018, Harderwijk, just a stone's throw away from Zeewolde, has gained a new museum, the Marius van Dokkum museum. In 2015, Van Dokkum exhibited at the City Museum in Harderwijk. The exhibition was a tremendous success. The large number of visitors and the enthusiastic reactions showed that the public had fallen for the work of Marius van Dokkum. And in turn, Marius fell in love with the city of Harderwijk, with its beautiful squares, streets, and monuments. He felt so at home there that he, together with the City Museum, went in search of a suitable location where he could permanently showcase his work.

His eye fell on one of the most beautiful buildings in Harderwijk, the former Dissecting Room of the University of Harderwijk. It was here that the professors dissected bodies in front of their students during the so-called anatomical lessons. After a thorough renovation, this remarkable historical location has gained a new and unique purpose: a museum dedicated to the work of a living artist.
