About this listing

The nature reserve consists of water surrounded by reed beds, rough areas, and elderberry and willow thickets. On the northeast side, there is a natural forest. The vegetation is characteristic of a young area. On an old sand deposit, variation in height and soil type contribute to an interesting vegetation. In addition to pioneer species, special plants such as beautiful yellow loosestrife and common agrimony grow here.

The diverse vegetation is the reason for many birds to settle in this area. Common sandpipers skim over the water surface and build their nests in a specially constructed artificial wall. Sometimes the osprey visits, and in winter, cormorants use the older willows along the edge of the lake as a roosting place.

An interesting fact: The Ooievaarplas (Stork Lake) was created by sand extraction for the construction of the A6 motorway.

Dogs are allowed on a leash.

The management of the Ooievaarsplas is in the hands of Het Flevo-Landschap.
