The lake is surrounded by rough vegetation with elder shrubs. The adjacent forest and shrubbery are planted and consist mainly of willow, elder, and poplar. Bird species such as reed bunting, grasshopper warbler, blackcap, linnet, and goldfinch can be found here. The water seems to be attractive to the osprey, as it is occasionally observed by bird enthusiasts driving on the A6.
The Reigerplas mainly serves a recreational function and is intended for quiet water recreation. There are jetties, a boat ramp, and a small sandy beach (dogs are not allowed on this beach). The lake can also be reached by boat from the Lage Vaart. A bicycle path and bridge allow for a visit to the nearby roadside restaurant during a walk or bike ride.
Fun fact: The Reigerplas was dug to extract sand for the construction of the A6.
The management of the Reigerplas is in the hands of Het Flevo-Landschap.
Location: between the A6, Praamweg, and Ooievaarsweg.
