The forest, marsh, and lake area Stichtse Putten is the connecting link between the forests of 't Gooi and those in Flevoland. Through this bridgehead, plants and animals can colonize Flevoland from 't Gooi, or vice versa, leave the polder. This migration process is ongoing and necessary to maintain and further develop nature. That is why it is good that the Stichtse Putten has a lot of variety: forest, thickets, grassy areas, reed beds, and lakes.

The Stichtse Putten owes its origin to the construction of the A27. Where there are now lakes, there used to be a large sand deposit for the construction of this highway. Because the nature reserve borders the entrance to Flevoland, a lot of attention has been paid to the design. The Stichtse Putten consists of two large lakes and a marsh, bordered by mixed deciduous forest on the east side.

The shallow lakes and the marsh are a haven for water birds. From mute swans to spoonbills, from avocets to greylag geese, all kinds of common and rare birds can be found there.

For walking and crawling animals, the A27 and Gooiseweg form a barrier that is hard to overcome. That is why a wildlife tunnel has been installed at a well-chosen location under the Gooiseweg in the form of a thick pipe. This pipe is heavily used by, among others, mice, hedgehogs, and weasels. Even hares and foxes know how to find this safe passage. The area still has a surprise: a model aircraft field.
