The name Zeewolde refers to the primeval forest that grew here before the prehistoric era and was later flooded by the sea. Approximately fifty years ago, water splashed here. And forty years ago, Zeewolde was a freshly cultivated pasture, the domain of pioneering farmers. Between the water, the meadows, and the forest, a village has been built and a community has emerged in a short period of time.

It is located at the most beautiful point of southern Flevoland, between the waters of the fringe lakes and a vast agricultural landscape. Surprisingly, the largest contiguous deciduous forest in Western Europe, the Horsterwold, lies to the west. The Wild Route runs through the Horsterwold, with its highlight being the Horsterberg. From here, you have a view over the Stille Kern, and if you're lucky, you'll see the Konik horses passing by below. It is no coincidence that this area, together with the Hulkesteinsebos, won the EDEN Award a few years ago. The jury described it as a rough diamond with great potential. With the prize money from this award, supplemented by various subsidies, an observation tower has been built near the Horsterberg. Of course, you will also cycle along some of the many beaches that Zeewolde has to offer. Here, you can enjoy the view over the Wolderwijd and the Nuldernauw. There are plenty of playgrounds for children on these beaches.
